About the project

Project overview

Stockport Railway Station plays a vital and well-established role in connecting people to jobs, services and opportunities across Greater Manchester and beyond. As the southern gateway to Greater Manchester, it is one of the region’s key transport hubs, used by residents, commuters, and visitors travelling into and out of Stockport.

As well as serving rail passengers, the station is also an important walking route between the town centre and Edgeley, with many people passing through the station as part of their everyday journeys.

The station also sits at the heart of one of the fastest-changing parts of the town, with significant regeneration and investment taking place across the town centre and surrounding neighbourhoods.

This project is a major investment in the future of Stockport Railway Station and the surrounding area, helping create easier journeys, better accessibility and improved connections across the town.

The emerging plans aim to create a station that is easier to use, better connected and more welcoming while supporting wider regeneration and future growth across Stockport.
